Race to the Top Survival Guide for Rhode Island Districts and Schools
Rhode Island has won Race to the Top funding. Districts in Rhode Island that participate in Race to the Top have clear expectations based on the memorandum of understanding that was signed. Districts must come up with a final scope of work by November 21 that describes how these requirements will be met. iObservation has capabilities that will allow your district or school to meet a number of these requirements.

|Rhode Island Requirement||iObservation Solution|
|Create accountable management systems that use evaluation data to provide evidence that schools have effective teachers and principals.||iObservation provides evidence of educator effectiveness from three different perspectives. One, it shows what practices associated with effective instruction are used by each individual. Two, it compares each person's level of expertise to others within the system. Three, it can show the impact of an instructor's classroom tactics on student achievement.|
|Evaluate new teachers to provide on-going feedback and targeted support.||iObservation establishes a common language of instruction that ties together induction programs, professional development, mentoring, and other initiatives. Evaluation tools in iObservation are directly linked to definitions of core effective practices to align observations and feedback with desired outcomes. iObservation also allows peer and mentor observations to further support new teachers.|
|Develop professional development plans in partnership with teachers, support professionals and principals based on evaluation data that provides supports and multiple pathways to obtain support and tools needed to be successful.||iObservation allows teachers and principals to create and track custom professional growth plans based on evaluation data from observations, walkthroughs, self-assessments, and student achievement. The system measures the effectiveness of professional development over time and highlights areas of growth and areas where further development is required.|
|Provide targeted professional development supports within a reasonable timeline to educators as indicated by evaluation data.||iObservation conveniently offers online professional development resources that are targeted to individual areas of need. The library of articles, rubrics, and videos are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. iObservation professional development can make an immediate impact on teaching practices.|
|Use evaluation data to identify individual, school-wide, and district-wide professional development needs.||iObservation directly connects professional development resources to areas of need identified in evaluations for each individual. Evaluation data can also be aggregated to show areas of need for a department, grade, or school.|
